John L. Hughes

Hughes, John L. formerly of Baldwin, on February 25, 2012. Devoted husband for over 50 years of the late Gloria. Beloved uncle of Wayne, Bruce, Robert and Ronald. Dear brother of the late David. John served on the NYPD for over 45 years and in his later years in the office of the chief of staff. After his retirement from the Police Dept., he worked at the European American Bank in Uniondale, N.Y. John was a founding member of the FDNY Emerald Society, was an avid tennis player and runner, running well into his 80’s. Special thanks to the Merritt family and the staff of the Wilton Meadows Health Care Center for their constant love and support the last years of John’s life. He was a good and kind man that will be missed. A memorial gathering will be held today, Tuesday March 13, 2012 at the Cecere Family Funeral Home 2283 Grand Ave. Baldwin, N.Y. 11510 from 1 to 3 PM. His remains will be placed with his beloved wife in Calverton National Cemetery. Donations to the FDNY Emerald Society P.O. Box 186 Island Park, N.Y. 11558 in John’s memory would be appreciated.
